News | March 18, 2013 Excelas Employees Walk Out of Work CLEVELAND, OH (March 18, 2013) – Excelas challenged its staff to Walk Out Of Work for the second time, and employees did exactly that, in a big way. As part its corporate wellness program, Excelas conducted its Walk Out Of Work (WOOW!) Challenge from January 15 to March 15, 2013. Participants in the program received pedometers and were encouraged to walk 10,000 steps a day. Not only do they reap the health benefits of increased physical activity, but they also had the opportunity to earn up to 24 hours of paid time off and a donation to a charity of their choice. When the program concluded on March 15, Excelas employees had tracked a total of 23,765,072 steps (11,883 miles), which is about half the circumference of the earth or a trip from Cleveland, Ohio to Cairo, Egypt and back. Employees also racked up an additional 719 total hours of PTO, and earned donations for 35 different charities. All of the statistics from 2013 represented a 31% increase over the results from 2012. This year, Excelas was pleased to make donations to the following charities on behalf of our WOOW! achievers: Alternaterm Pregnancy Services American Cancer Society Berea Animal Rescue Friends Breast Cancer Research Foundation CANTER Ohio City Mission Cleveland Animal Protective League Conversation Station Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Euclid Beach Feral Cat Project Family Adoption Consultants The Gathering Place Global Emergency Care Collaborative Habitat for Humanity Honor Flight Cleveland Hospice of the Western Reserve Lake Humane Society Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Living Water International Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain Malachi House March of Dimes Middleburg Heights Food Pantry Muscular Dystrophy Association National Kidney Foundation National Multiple Sclerosis Society Nellie’s Catwalk for Kids (NC4K) PAWSibilities Humane Society of Greater Akron Public Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital St. Teresa of Avila Church Suicide Prevention Education Alliance Susan G.
